Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the name Nagi come from?

In Japanese, the word Nagi ( 凪 ) has a nuanced and poetic meaning:

  • Harmonize, calm, peaceful - to make or become calm and peaceful. A state of stillness where the wind has died down and the waves are calm.
  • Mix, Blend - a harmonious blending or the settling of different elements into a tranquil unity.

The term carries a peaceful and tranquil connotation and is sometimes used metaphorically to describe a calm period in life.

To us, that moment we sip on our matcha, is a moment of harmony and peace. That peaceful and calm state where the world just stands still for a minute.

All you need is matcha, water, and milk to make that harmonious cup and create that peaceful moment for yourself.

Why Nagi?

Nagi is created with intention. A balance of nature, tradition, and quiet everyday ritual. Thoughtfully sourced matcha, crafted to feel good in every sense: for you, and for the world around you.

From Uji, Japan

Born in Uji — the historic heart of matcha — where misty mountains and fertile soil shape a tea renowned for its depth, colour, and natural umami.

Single origin Saemidori cultivar

Grown from a single, carefully selected cultivar known for its soft, balanced character and smooth finish. A pure expression of place and plant.

Crafted with care

Produced according to Japanese JAS standards and crafted with deep respect for tradition, quality, and the natural character of the tea leaf.

First flush harvest

Harvested at the very start of the season, when the leaves are at their most vibrant and refined. Resulting in a naturally delicate and layered flavour profile.

Flavour & finish

A harmony of umami depth, gentle sweetness, and soft earthy notes, finishing in a smooth, velvety texture with a subtle hint of bitterness.

Thoughtful packaging

Packaged in resealable paper pouches, designed to help preserve freshness and flavour while reflecting a more mindful approach to packaging.

Nagi is an invitation to slow down, and return to yourself, one cup at a time.

What quality is the matcha?

Nagi is a high-quality ceremonial matcha crafted in Uji, Japan — a region renowned for its rich matcha tradition and exceptional tea craftsmanship. Our matcha is made exclusively from first flush leaves, carefully selected for their vibrant colour, smooth character, and refined flavour.

We use a single origin Saemidori cultivar and traditional stone-grinding methods to create a balanced matcha with rich umami, gentle sweetness, and a smooth finish.

How do I prepare a matcha?
Preparing matcha is an invitation to slow down. A small ritual that brings presence, balance, and intention into your day.

Measure with care
Using a bamboo scoop, add 2g of matcha to your bowl and gently sift to create a smooth, silky powder.

Awaken the powder
Add a small splash of cold water and use your bamboo whisk to gently stir in circular motions until a thick, smooth paste forms.

Whisk to life
Pour in 50ml of hot water (maximum 80°C) and whisk in a gentle zig-zag motion until a vibrant layer of froth appears on the surface.

Pour with presence
Pour your matcha into your favourite cup and add warm, foamed milk to your liking.

Our favourite? Creamy coconut milk.

Prefer it iced?
Simply pour your freshly whisked matcha over ice and add cold milk for a refreshing twist on your daily ritual.
How do I store my matcha?
Like all beautiful things in nature, matcha is at its best when treated with a little care.

Seal
After each ritual, gently reseal your pouch to protect the delicate aroma and character of the tea.

Store
Keep your matcha in the refrigerator, away from light, heat, and moisture, to preserve its vibrant freshness.

Enjoy
For the fullest flavour, colour, and aroma, we recommend enjoying your matcha within 30 days of opening.

A little care goes a long way in preserving the experience found in every cup.

What are the benefits of matcha?

Matcha is more than a daily ritual. It’s a gentle way to support both body and mind.

Naturally containing caffeine and L-theanine, it provides a steady sense of energy and focus, without the sharp crash often associated with coffee.

Traditionally, matcha has also been associated with overall wellbeing, including:

A natural source of calm, focused energy
Supporting a balanced and mindful daily rhythm
Contributing to general vitality and wellbeing
Rich in naturally occurring antioxidants

A simple cup, designed to help you feel more grounded, present, and clear throughout your day.

Is there caffeine in matcha?

Yes there is caffeine in matcha. Between 19 and 44 mg per gram. Which is in general more caffeine compared to a gram of coffee. However, a cup of matcha has a lower caffeine content as you use less of it.

Moreover, as matcha contains the natural amino acid, L-theanine, the way your body absorbs the caffeine is different. Instead of getting a caffeine spike and that jittery feeling, that you get from coffee, your body gradually uses the caffeine in matcha over a longer period. So matcha gives you that sustained energy boost without the caffeine crash.

Is there sugar in Nagi Matcha?

Many commercial matcha products do have added sugar in there. So be careful to always check the ingredients.

Nagi matcha does not contain any added sugars. It's matcha at its purest form.

Can I drink matcha daily?

Yes you can definitely drink matcha daily. It has so many amazing benefits for your body. Just remember that matcha does contain caffeine. So be mindful of that and see what feels good for you. Every body is different.

What is the best time to drink matcha?

That is totally up to your body, schedule and your preferences. We love our matcha in the morning as it provides us with that subtle energy and focus. But just see whatever works best for you. We do advise you to not drink matcha later in the afternoon or evening as it does still contain some caffeine. And you want to make sure the caffeine does not disrupt your sleep routine.

 Is matcha suitable for vegans?

Yes. Pure matcha is vegan. It is made out of 100% tea leaves, nothing else is added into it.

So your cup of Nagi is 100% vegan (depending on the milk you choose to make it of course).

Do you offer discounts?

The answer to this question lies in our deep commitment to balance, harmony, and respect for the process behind every cup of matcha we bring to you.

Here at Nagi, we believe in honouring the hard work of our producers and maintaining the balance between quality, sustainability and fairness. Each bag of matcha represents the dedication of farmers who nurture the fields with care, precision, and an unwavering passion for their craft.

Offering discounts can undervalue their efforts and the sustainability practices we prioritize. By pricing our products transparently and fairly year-round we ensure that everyone in the production chain — from the fields to your cup — receives the respect they deserve.

Drinking matcha is a ritual of self-care and mindfulness, not a bargain-hunting activity. It’s about slowing down, savouring the moment, and connecting with yourself. By choosing our matcha, you’re investing in more than a product — you’re embracing a lifestyle rooted in intention and balance.

That said, we also know that every ritual begins with a first step. For those discovering Nagi for the first time, we occasionally offer a welcome discount on your first purchase. This isn’t about undervaluing the craft — it’s an invitation to step into the ritual with more ease. Once you taste and feel the difference, you’ll understand why we honour our matcha the way we do.

Thank you for understanding and supporting a philosophy that prioritizes quality, harmony, and sustainability. Together, we’re creating a world where mindful choices matter.
